Couldn’t resist ranging wall art featuring super heroes and a Super heroine -Wonder Woman. The wall art is a series of retro tin signs. They’re made in the USA and bought in specifically by an Australian business south west of Sydney.
Appealing to young and old alike with no specific gender bias, Superheroes are just outright fabulous. Some did tend to lend themselves to the territory of the geek but mainstream now fully understands what the geeks already knew – superheroes are just plain awesome.
Movies are escapism and sometimes when there are troubled times and when we feel we’re on the edge, a superhero is just what we need. It’s a comforting thought to think there is someone that is bigger than life, stands for truth and goodness and would protect us.
The movies do appear to have been conceived with intelligence and sensitivity. Turning comic books into movies is such a feat. It’s that rhetoric of the book being better than the film because we have our own ‘take’ on the book and believe there is greater depth. It seems that that depth and fantasy is captured in bringing these superheroes to life.
What’s great is that we believe in and care about our Superheroes – human conditions that are in all of us and which need expressing.
Apart from the stories themselves, their origins are equally interesting. There’s a little information on each superhero in Category “Interesting Décor” but I’ve added al little more information about the origins of some of my favourites - Wonder Woman and Wolverine.
Wonder Woman is a founding member of the Justice League.
Wonder Woman's original story was that she was sculpted from clay by her mother, Queen Hippolyta and given life to live as an Amazon along with superhuman powers as gifts by the Greek Gods.
In recent years, DC changed her background with the revelation that she was the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta, jointly raised by her mother an her aunts. Wonder Woman's muscular appearance was given to emphasise her Amazonia heritage. She has an arsenal of advanced technology including the Lasso of Trust, a pair of indestructible bracelets and a tiara which serves as a projectile.
She would be a great addition to any wall and a perfect gift for a wonder woman in your life.
Wolverine is my next personal favourite. The concept of enhanced physical capabilities, a powerful regenerative ability (healing factory) and three retractable claws in each hand is outright amazing. But it’s Wolverine’s vulnerability that is the most appealing. He has a sense of humility about him that sets him apart even though his nature is brooding. He is one tough antihero.
We know him as Logan and associated with the X-Men. His character evolved overtime and settled in around 80s.
There are a number of Superheroes available in the retro wall art range. Made in the U.S.A. and bought in by an enthusiast here in N.S.W., these retro tin signs are just plain cool. They look great displayed as a collection.
